One of the more sensational ethnic festivals is coming our way. It’s the 48th Annual Grease Pole Festival, which is hosted at the Puchos Social Club (Olivencia Community Center). The event, presented by M&M U-Pull-It, and sponsored by Panorama Hispano, is one of the more lively and unique events in all of Buffalo. If you have not been to this festival before, then you don’t know what you’re missing… especially if you’re a fan of Puerto Rican food and culture.
The highlight of the festival? Well, there are many, including the live music, the carnival rides, and the countless performances that take place throughout the three-day celebration. The 2017 performance line-up includes:
- Ashley “La Chica Bomba”
- Giro
- Sol Y Sombra
- Next Level
- Afrikando
- Calle Uno
- DJ MIC-O
- DJ C-Perfect
Each year, the Grease Pole Festival spotlights a grand finale the likes of which you have never witnessed. Contestants climb up on each other’s backs in order to scale a greased telephone pole (see lead image). At the top of the pole is an assortment of prizes, but the crowning achievement is the bragging rights to say that your team made it to the top. Not only does this look impossible, when viewing the competition underway, very few teams ever make it to the top… period. The crowd goes crazy for this one – you’ve honestly never seen anything quite like it. That’s why you have to grab some friends and family members and head to The 48th Annual Grease Pole Festival!
The Grease Pole Festival is one of the longest running festivals in WNY.
