Hockey might not be the first thing on your mind at the moment, but if you have some time to stop over to HarborCenter today, you will find a group of local players going skate to skate on the ice. 22 youth teams are playing for 11 hours, all to fight breast cancer.
Today’s ice time play is part of The 11 Day Power Play – a fundraiser for Roswell Park Cancer Institute. The entire family is welcome to stop by to check out the games, and participate in the activities. You can also catch Live Streaming of the games, by clicking here.
Forty fearless players will spend over 250 hours on the ice.
The first puck dropped this morning at 9am, and the last game wraps up at 8pm. The tournament includes a set of youth activities being held from 10:00AM to 4:00PM (see schedule below), including Bottle Bullseye, Rolly Pollies, ICE Super Chexx bubble hockey, and an NHL ’17 XBOX kiosk. See schedule.
Fed up with the hardship caused by cancer and fueled by their love of hockey, a determined group of Buffalo friends, were inspired to take action. So they set a goal to break the record for the worlds longest hockey game while raising money for cancer research. The 11-Day Power Play will feature 250 hours of continuous hockey from June 22-July 3, 2017 at HarborCenter in Buffalo, NY. Two teams of 20 players will play the entire game.
Live music is featured throughout the event. Acts include Steve Balesteri, Hypnic jerks, C.O. Jones, and others. There’s plenty of hockey still to be played – be sure to take some time to cheer on these fellas as they raise funds, break records and help to smash cancer.
