This past weekend Buffalo Riverworks hosted the world’s largest open-air outdoor Brazilian Jiu Jitsu and Judo tournaments side by side. The Am Cans of Judo (on the yellow and blue mats) and the Buffalo Classic Brazilian Jiu Jitsu tournament (black and white mats) was held May 27th and 28th. The tournaments together drew about 750 competitors and thousands of spectators from all over the northeast. Competitors ranged in age from children to seniors.
Also, part of the proceeds were directed towards the nonprofit youth development group Vector Jiu Jitsu. Vector is located in a low income area that has traditionally low graduation rates. They offer free martial arts and peer counseling to students.
Amazingly, they have a 100% graduation rate from high school with students enrolled in their martial arts program. To date this tournament has raised well over $5000 towards the program.
Jiu Jitsu and Judo programs are available right here in Buffalo!
