Backing his debut album release, Day Dream’n, local musician, and songwriter Omeri Monroe will be performing Thursday, May 25th at the Waiting Room. Hosted by Three 2 Go Music Alliance, and Three 2 Go Music, and featuring fellow artists Dan Marsh, and Saranaide, the concert will also raise funds for the African Heritage Food Co-Op.
Inspired by the classic ‘70s R&B, and pop music of his youth, Omeri Monroe has cultivated his own unique sound, and style, and has built Day Dream’n around catchy hooks, and colorful, hypnotic melodies. His final product is the culmination of years of dedication to growth as a musician, while growing up in Buffalo’s inner city.
Omeri’s diverse sounds will surely appeal to both fans of R&B, and pop music, and exposes the emotional investment, and never-ending evolution of his artistic pursuits.
“I am always looking for new challenges,” Omeri explains, “and new ways of expressing myself.”
As evidence, during the recording of Day Dream’n, Omeri found translating his vision to his band wasn’t yielding the results he was looking for. In response, he was compelled to purchase his first guitar, and continue to refine what he had written. A pattern seen throughout his artistic development, Omeri has continued to respond to difficult situations with resilience, and increased dedication to his chosen path.
Raised by his godmother in a difficult family situation, he found music, and writing to be a positive, creative outlet for expression. While searching for opportunities to expand, he brought together friends to audition for America’s Best Dance Crew. Although they didn’t achieve the results they hoped for, Omeri used this as a learning experience, and developed new strategies for success, including digging deeper into his love of writing music.
“I would buy electronic beats online, and use R&B lyrics I had created to come up with new tracks,” says Omeri.
Soon after, he had earned an audition with Three 2 Go Music; an independent label dedicated to the development of young talent.
As an artist that prides himself on being open to learning, and incorporating varying styles, and sounds to his own, his breadth of talent, and the influences of musicians such as John Mayer, Darius Rucker, Gavin Degraw, and Lauryn Hill can be heard throughout Day Dream’n.
Tickets for Omeri’s show at The Waiting Room, at 334 Delaware Ave. can be found online at ticketfly.com, and are only $5. Doors open at 6:00PM. Event information can be found on Facebook.
