The Buffalo Really Really Free Market is back. This is the market where everything is… free? Yes, all of the items featured at the market are yours for the taking. The concept is based on the very simple ideology that there is still a place for non-capitalist thinking in today’s society. At this market, there is no money exchanged, no buying, no selling, no barter, and no exchanges. If you see something that you like, it’s yours… for free, no stings attached.
This is not a “dump and go event”. All of the people setting up table with their goods that day are looking to unload things that they have amassed that they no longer need. At the same time, there are always others who could stand to gain some things, without emptying their wallets or purses.
All of the goods offered up at this market are in decent condition – this is not a junk festival. Some of the items that you might expect to come across include bikes, books, plants, clothes, household items, appliances, electronics, tools, toys, games, and building/art materials. The market is always filled with interesting items, and people. All you need to know to take part in the free affair is:
- Please be respectful. Plan to take away anything you brought that was not taken when you leave. Bring only good items, not junk.
- Talk to the people at the front table before you leave. It may be possible for you to leave behind the things you brought.
- Bring a tarp, blanket or folding table to display your goods to give away
- Bring water or something to drink while there

Not only will there be people there giving away their goods, there will also be others on hand who will be teaching life skills such as language, yoga, martial arts and bicycle repair. Teachers are always welcome to join in on the fun. Market organizers want everyone to walk away with something that they can use. And hopefully the circle of giving continues to ripple outwards, long after the market wraps up.
Musicians are also welcome to stop by and play. Also, if you have nothing else to offer, consider lending a helping hand by volunteering to join the clean up effort after the event is over.
This market is for everyone who wants to be part of a sharing, caring society.
