The Buddha and Vesak Come to Buffalo

The month of May is a time to commemorate the Birth, Enlightenment and Passing Away of the historical Gautama Buddha. This year Vesak (honors the life of Buddha and his teachings) is set to be held on Wednesday, May 1o in India. But the enlightened celebration takes place throughout the month.

“The sacred commemoration of the Day of Vesak offers an invaluable opportunity to reflect on how the teachings of Buddhism can help the international community tackle pressing challenges.” – Secretary General Ban Ki-moon

These days, Vesak, also known as Buddha Day, is celebrated by millions of people around the word – by Buddhists and non-Buddhists alike. That’s because the master’s teachings of universal peace and healing are more important than ever.

On Saturday, May 20 from 2pm to 4pm, a Buffalo observance will be held at 1243 Delaware Avenue, featuring guided meditation and mindfulness practice, along with music, prayer and food.
