A brand new art space is opening in the Old First Ward. Paracosm Arts is the brainchild of art curator Tara Bystran Sasiadek, who will be hosting myriad shows within The Barrel Factory, located at 65 Vandalia Street. The initial art opening features new works by Sean Madden (Rochester) and Thomas Webb (Buffalo). The event will also showcase live music by Madden’s Acid-Jazz trio band, FlashBamPow.
“Graphic Intercourse”, is a pen and ink show featuring “fine details and wild contrast”. Graphic Intercourse also showcases new collaborative works between the two artists, who share a number of commonalities when it comes to their explorative artistic talents.
Paracosm, meaning alternative or parallel universe, is in this case the artistic worlds of two poets, musicians, or painters coming together.
Webb: “For me, the appeal [of ink as a medium] has always been the challenge of portraying an idea or feeling using as few colors as possible. It forces you to simplify your way of thinking.”
Madden: “[Ink as a medium] can impact the viewer in a much different way. The absence of color can actually be more expressive than color itself. I think ink relies more on texture and shape than a painting does.”
While he is in town, Madden will also be performing the following day in FlashBamPow at “American Blasphemies” hosted by Mega Del Rey (at Lakeward Spirits in The Barrel Factory). The event will highlight collaborative poetry and dance starting at 7pm on May 6, 2017.
