Foxy Diamondz leads with Prince Tribute and follows with Cabaret @ Expo

On Friday, April 21, join the dance troupe Foxy Diamondz as they take their latest routine to Expo Market for a tribute to legendary singer-songwriter superstar, Prince. The tribute is just one is a series of events that is being dreamed up by Maria Provenzano, founder and creative director at Foxy Diamondz.

Over the years, Maria has spread her performance net across the city, taking part in countless events, parties, and festivals. Now Provenzano is zeroing in on a venue that she feels offers plenty of flexibility when it comes to arranging dance spectaculars in an intimate setting. In fact, she is hoping to transform Expo from culinary market by day, to “swanky nightclub” in the evening. Seeing that there is already a wide variety of food and drink offerings, Expo already has many of the ingredients needed for a fun night out on the town. According to Provenzano, the initial Prince Tribute will be followed by a second event, Cabaret!

“Since Prince’s passing, doing a tribute to him was swirling around in the back of my mind,” said Provenzano. “When I realized that he passed away on my birthday, I thought it would be a good time to honor him through my true passion, dance. His music and energy truly makes you want to get up and move! People can a expect entertainment throughout the evening inspired by Prince. I can’t reveal too much- as it is all a surprise – you’ll have to come and see for yourself!

My team and I are working to create pre-shows before the shows on Main street, specifically inspired by the shows coming to Shea’s.

“In regards to future dance inspired events at Expo, JJ Alferi has been a large supporter of the dance revolution happening all around us in WNY, so he linked me up with his managers Brandy, Melanie and Jodie. As big supporters of the revival of Main Street and the arts, we all decided that the Cabaret show (at Shea’s) would be a great place to start! My team and I are working to create pre-shows before the shows on Main street, specifically inspired by the shows coming to Shea’s. Cabaret was the perfect fit for the Foxes, however I really wanted to be authentic of the feel of the film and musical. I decided I would build a set and transform Expo into a swank nightclub. Creating the right type of ambiance for Cabaret at the market will set the mood for theatre goers if they want to stop in before. It also helps create awareness that dance shows can be staged anywhere with a great team and a little creativity… with velvet and feathers of course!”

So let’s get off to a good start with Prince, and then prepare for Cabaret, with (hopefully) others to follow. Let’s give a hand to Provenzano for continuing to push the art of dance far and wide, with all of the creative endeavors that she continues to roll out.
