The VETTE (Virginia, Edward, Trinity, Tupper, Elmwood) Block Club announces its annual fundraiser for the Trinity-Tupper Community Garden, to take place Sunday, April 2, 2017, from 3-6 p.m. at Nietzsche’s, 248 Allen Street.
The garden, begun in 2011, is supported by materials donated by Grassroots Gardens and other businesses, but the communally-run garden is funded almost entirely by the fundraiser, held each Spring. Dozens of neighbors and community members plant seeds and starter vegetable plants and flowers, as well as weed, water and do bed maintenance throughout the summer. All the raised beds were re-built this past year, with help from a volunteer team from Rich Products. Grassroots Gardens holds events at the garden each summer, and it is a favorite stop on the Tour de Farms bicycle ride every fall. Proceeds from this fundraiser will go to the garden.
This year, entertainment will open with singer-songwriter Kathryn Koch, doing a solo set. Koch sings and plays saxophone with Black Rock Zydeco and The Healing Committee, and was a founding member of Redheaded Stepchild, a band which lived on Trinity Place in the VETTE in the 1990s and wrote a number of songs about the street and the neighbors.
Topping off the afternoon will be supergroup, The Petal Pushers, featuring Buffalo Music Hall of Fame member Joe Rozler (Sid Winkler Trio, Party Squad, Outer Circle Orchestra and countless other groups), Sue Rozler (Sid Winkler Trio, Mama Earth’s Kitchen Band, Girls Gone Mild), Amanda Amico (The Stamplickers; owner of Amy’s Truck) and Mark Dixon (Buffalo Music Hall of Fame, Party Squad) playing rock and disco dance floor favorites.
One of the best parties of the year!
“We are known for throwing a very fun party, but this one is extra special,” observes VETTE Block Club parliamentarian Celia White. “The neighborhood is abuzz about the collaboration between Joe Rozler and Amanda Amico.”
“I was such a fan of The Stamplickers,” says Rozler, “and since they weren’t able to play as a group this year, I took the opportunity to play with Amanda, who has a great voice and presence. I’m delighted that my longtime bandmate Mark Dixon, the best rock drummer around, is going to play with us, plus Sue Rozler, on bass and vocals, will be a great combination for making fun, danceable music. Think rock, disco…anything which makes you move.”
The bar will also display the flower light boxes by Trinity-Tupper lead gardener Jim Horn. Annie Philippone takes the keys at 6pm.
