The goal of Stitch Buffalo is to bring people together who have a passion for creating beautiful and useful embroidery, beading and weaving projects (learn more here). The participants involved with this project are refugees who hail from various war-torn countries. Stitch Buffalo offers these people the ability to work with textiles, similar to what they might be accustomed to handling in their home countries. Not only does this incredible program draw together people to create practical items, it also offers them a way to make some money of the side.
On Saturday April 1, Stitch Buffalo will be throwing a free party, designed to spread the good word of this inspirational organization. Partygoers will be able to meet the people involved with the project, while browsing the finely crafted goods made by the refugees in the program.
Many of the women do not share a language, but they teach each other through watching and demonstrating. Without the program, many say that they would be staying at home, missing the opportunities to connect with others, develop language skills, and share information about issues common to immigrants.
Come learn about Stitch Buffalo – what drives the organization, and where it is heading. Support the Refugee Women’s Workshop, by simply attending the event, while sampling traditional Burmese, Bhutanese and Nepalese foods.
