Queen City Music Lottery #4: The Drawing

Each year, Sugar City, Peterwalkee Records, and The Queen City Quality Control Team organize a lottery where individual musicians are randomly pieced together to form new Buffalo area bands. This is a fun, ingenious and super creative project that takes local musicians out of their comfort zone (playing with friends and bandmates), and positions them with other musicians who are in the exact same boat. The outcome is fascinating and electrifying – it’s a “Mad Scientist” experiment that could go in any direction. The idea is, for the new bands to work together for 9-10 weeks to come up with a 15 minute set of original music. From there, the bands are expected to perform in a showcase*.

Any given band could consist of multiple members that primarily play guitar or maybe your band consists of people that normally play drums, or maybe no one in your band actual knows how to play anything and you are all complete strangers!

At the end of the day, it’s all about having fun, meeting new people, learning new instruments, and learning new things about yourself. Participating musicians range from amateurs to pros, all mixing and mingling at random, to come up with a hook that can win the competition.
