By this time, every Buffalo Rising reader should know what a NIMBY is. But we bet that you’ve never heard of a YIMBY. On April 29th, a large group of YIMBYs will be getting together to celebrate the building of Buffalo. “Yes, In My Backyard” is the culmination of a pro-Buffalo movement that we have been witnessing as of late. The Buffalo YIMBY group will be hosting a festival called “Buffalo: Block by Block”, with the intention of rallying more people to get involved with the growth of Buffalo.
YIMBY aims to bring Block Clubs, Community Groups, Grass Roots Organizations, and individuals throughout Buffalo under one roof to get to know each other, to share success stories and challenges, and to learn more about hands-on, simple actions to make our city better, one block at a time.
This event is dedicated to those who have been doing their part to boost Buffalo in any way that they can. Vital grassroots efforts have been able to secure our neighborhoods, block by block, and those efforts will continue to heighten as more people get onboard. Now it’s time to get together to have some fun, to network, to come up with new ideas, and rally behind the efforts that are already underway.
It’s a chance to spread the word about your work, celebrate achievements and identify new challenges and opportunities in an atmosphere focused on listening, learning and engaging.
This celebration is all about the greater good of Buffalo, by capitalizing on this newfound spirit and energy, while pushing steadfastly forward. We’ve already seen what is possible. Now it’s time to create the Buffalo that we have all been envisioning in our collective minds.
At this time, Buffalo YIMBY has a call out for people, groups and organizations that would like to participate. If the “Buffalo: Block by Block” is of interest to you, head over to this website.
