Lofts at Five Points

Building owners Paul Lamparelli, Jocelyn E. Gordon, Charles Gordon, and Kevin Helfer appear to be in the final stages of development at the corner of Rhode Island and 15th Street. The building’s commercial storefront is taking shape and will soon be another contributing factor to the overall resurgence of the neighborhood.

The building also has a new name – Lofts at Five Points. It’s good to see the Five Points brand being extended further from the actual five points intersection. This type of cohesive branding will go a long way towards encouraging further development. It’s also a great way to get people more familiar with the neighborhood. The Five Points “brand” is already very respected due to the types of businesses that have set up shop in the neighborhood, including Five Points Bakery and Urban Roots Garden Cooperative.

There are a number of similar buildings on the West Side that could stand to see commercial upgrades similar to what we are looking at here. Many of the old commercial storefronts/taverns are either boarded up or have been converted to residential. In either case, there are more opportunities to reenergize a number of blocks by restoring the historic storefronts/taverns, which would help to bring life and needed amenities back to the neighborhoods. The wonderful nature of any city is to explore the side streets and find little surprises along the way, such as flower shops, markets, and eateries.

It will be interesting to see what commercial component is added to this awesome.development.
