30% of LGBTQ youth try to die: Here is why: Not
That’s a staggering figure, especially when you consider that we are living in the modern world, where there are so many other things to worry about than someone’s sexual orientation. But if the fight to protect the rights and the lives of the LGBTQ community must go on, then so be it. People will continue to do whatever it takes to safeguard their own rights, along with the rights of others, for as long it takes to live in a world of unbiased equality.
“1 in every 3 LGBTQ teenagers considers or attempts suicide,” said Michael Manning, in regards to the upcoming event, Poetry Slam for Saving LGBTQ Lives. “More than 1 in 3 homeless children is LGBTQ, and was put out on the street by their families on account of how they identify. This is deplorable, frankly. HEP C is sweeping our city, along with HIV/AIDS, according to my contacts in the Pride Center and Evergreen Health Organization. The proceeds from this event are being donated to local gay organizations in hopes that through the networks in place that exist to help LGBTQ people, we might affect change.”

On Friday, January 13, the community will be coming together to attend a Poetry Slam, in order to raise funds for this worthy cause. It’s also another step towards spreading awareness of the continued efforts that are being made to mitigate the unwarranted conflicts that still face LGBTQ people.
“The event aims to help LGBTQ people in the city of Buffalo by sharing common struggles, hopes, and dreams through poetry,” shared Manning. “[The event will be held] together with Pure Ink Poetry, featuring David Butler, Al Montgomery, Stella Virgin, Seth Tyler Black, Marek Phillip Parker, Bianca Mcgraw, Jon Herr and Brandon Williamson – with the aim overall to hedge a few very frightening statistics.”
