Walking around the West Side these days, one would be hard pressed to think that there are segregation issues in Buffalo. The West Side has become a melting pot of cultures thanks to so many grassroots organizations that strive to break down the social, racial and economic barriers. One of those organizations dedicated to this crucial cause is The WASH Project.
You might have read about The Wash Project on BRO back in September (see here). In this day and age in Buffalo, when some areas of this city are becoming multi-cultural hubs, we owe thanks to the organizations that keep up the good fight. In order to “keep up the good fight”, it’s important to roll out programming and measures that ensure that everyone has the ability to make a go of it. Whether that means that families have warm winter gear, or they have access to urban farms to plant crops, each and every initiative serves a purpose.
In the spirit of love, inclusivity, decompression & a bangin’ skate party…
Every once in a while The WASH Project hosts a feel good roller skating party that helps to bridge the gap between people in a way that only roller skating can. The Well Rounded People’s Party skating event invites people from all over the city to attend a social skate at New Skateland Arena, on the city’s East Side, just off Main Street. After all, we can’t take ourselves too seriously all of the time. Yes, there are serious issues that must be overcome in Buffalo, but sometimes allowing people to unwind together in a fun social setting is the perfect remedy.
#safetyskate
We are seeing more and more safe spaces arise in Buffalo, where everyone is welcome. Hopefully some day every place will be a safe space. Until that time, we need to demonstrate that it’s more constructive to get along in peace and harmony than to allow fear, hate and ignorance to infiltrate our communities.
On Friday, November 25, from 10pm to 1am, the community (age 21+) is invited to come roller skate together, under one roof. New Skateland Arena is located at 33 E Ferry Street. The event will showcase jammin’ music by Sike, Cove and Trev Thorne.
Well Rounded People’s Party – Late Nite Edition
$10
Due to the late night version, this particular event is 21+. There are others that are all age events, so stay tuned.
