If there’s an organization that has undeniably changed the landscape of Buffalo for the better, it’s Grassroots Gardens (GG). GG has transformed derelict urban lots all over the West Side into productive, fruitful gardens.
It is said that you can gauge a neighborhood by its gardens – typically, the more gardens, the more people care about where they live. It’s a sign of life. It’s also an aesthetic appeal that translates to increased house sales, drops in crime, and enhanced social engagement.
On Wednesday, November 16, Grassroots Gardens will be hosting its annual Harvest Celebration at Big Ditch Brewing Company. For $20, supporters get a couple of beers and an unlimited pretzel bar. The money raised at the event goes towards increasing the efforts of GG, so that more neighborhoods may benefit from the actions of a selfless group that continues to transform the city street by street.
Attend the GG celebration for the beer, the pretzels… and you might just walk away with one of the best homemade pies in the land. Each year, the Harvest Celebration includes a delicious pie raffle, as if supporting the GG movement was not enough.
