Every winter, after the Elmwood Bidwell Farmers Market wraps up its outdoor season, the farmers and vendors move inside for the winter. Last year was the first time that they set up shop on the Buffalo State campus, and apparently it was enough of a success to warrant a return season.
Starting on Saturday, December 3, the Elmwood Village Farmers Market will make its initial appearance at Buckham Hall (campus of SUNY Buffalo State, 1300 Elmwood Avenue). The winter market will begin at 9am and will end at noon. The market will be operational Saturdays through mid April 2017. Some of the highly anticipated vendors include:
Alpine Made, Angel Cakes By Evin, Barrel & Brine, Belleview Farm, Biscotti for Everybotti, Blue Table Chocolates, Carla’s Crumby Creations, Darling Bee, Fetch! Gourmet Dog Treats, First Light Farm & Creamery, Go Veggies, Kindred Kreek Alpaca Farm, LynOaken Farms, Native Offerings Farm, Plato Dale Farm, Public Espresso + Coffee, and Rooted Locally.
The Whitworth Ferguson Planetarium in Buckham Hall on the Buffalo State campus will also be open on Saturdays. Please visit www.fergusonplanetarium.net for more information.
Per usual, there will also be entertainment incorporated into the mix (10am to 11:30am). Also, a different community organization will be featured each week. Aside from setting up an info table, Buffalo State will increase its presence at the market this year. Students from the Department of Health, Nutrition & Dietetics will provide health and nutritional information. They will also host yoga sessions. More information will be made available at the market, on this website, or on Facebook.
Don’t let winter slow you down. Continue to eat local and healthy!
Elmwood Village Winter Market returns to Buffalo State
Buckham Hall is located on Rockwell Road near Grant Street. Free parking is available on campus during market hours, and Lot R-13 is recommended for convenience.
Field & Fork Networkʼs “Double Up Food Bucks” program will return for the indoor marketʼs second season, providing low-income individuals who receive Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits with a $1 for $1 match, up to $20, to purchase fresh, locally-grown fruits and vegetables. EBT cards are also accepted.
The Winter Market will be closed for the holidays on Dec. 24 and Dec. 31. On Saturday, May 6, 2017, the Elmwood Village Farmers Market will return to its usual location at the intersection of Elmwood Avenue and Bidwell Parkway in Buffaloʼs historic Elmwood Village. Both markets are a program of the Elmwood Village Association.
