On Saturday, December 3, a Downtown tree lighting will be held at Rotary Rink. Each year, hundreds of people gather at the heart of downtown Buffalo, to celebrate the holiday season as skaters take to the ice, music plays, and Santa makes his rounds. There will even be a fireworks display to wrap up the festivities. The event is orchestrated by Buffalo Place.
The tree lighting signals the launch of the free skating season, and the rebirth of Main Street as a competitive commercial hub. To that end, Molly’s on Main recently opened (at Rotary Rink), as have a number of other restaurants and retailers.
Come down and view the historic AM&A’s holiday windows along Main Street, drink some hot cocoa and explore all that the city has to offer.
The Western New York Book Arts Center (WNYBAC) will be hosting a Drop-In Holiday Card Workshop and a Pop-Up Shop of Local Artists during the event. Many of the local shops will be hosting tandem holiday events that same evening. Be sure to swing by EXPO Market and all of the shops inside the Market Arcade building. Even a super sized Starbucks has recently opened inside the Hyatt Atrium. And don’t forget to stop by Raclette’s, Furnishings, and all of the other local businesses that make this part of the city so special.
