At this point, there might be no stopping a wall being built along the Mexican border. It looks as if the only way to stop it, would be getting the neighbors of 175 Nottingham Terrace to join in the fight. They did an excellent job of getting the Buffalo Zoning Board to reverse its decision, to disallow an intricate 8′ iron gate to be built around the residence. A crew is currently in the process of breaking up the cement in preparation to remove and then reinstall the impressive ironwork at a lower level (2 feet deeper into the ground), but not on the north side of the property facing Nottingham Terrace.
According to the Buffalo News, 150 neighbors signed a petition, and hired a high-powered attorney to put an end to the offensive gate. The Zoning Board originally granted a variance for the height of the gate (2 feet higher than City Code allows). That variance was ultimately overturned when neighbors caused an uproar and put a halt to the work.
