As you’re celebrating Thanksgiving this year, don’t forget to raise a glass to friends and family who cannot be with you on this special day. Fourteen years ago, a special tradition was started, which continues to this day. At 7pm (Buffalo time), gather your friends and family together for an international toast. And don’t forget to take a group photo and post it on this Facebook event page. Also see group page for past toasts and additional info.
Toast to family and friends. Toast to peace. Toast to whatever makes you happy.
Buffalonian Geoff Schutte started this tradition when he was stuck far from home for the holidays. “We started this when I was in Peace Corps, and unable to be with family for the first time at Thanksgiving,” Geoff said. “Since then, we have continued this toast. Last year, friends from over 25 countries and 30 states raised their glasses in unison. It’s easy – gather whomever you are with and raise a glass at the right time.”
The toast this year will take place at 7pm EST (4pm on the west coast; 5:45am on Friday in Kathmandu; 7am in Bangkok).
