The Healthy Scratch opens Monday

A new healthy food alternative will be opening at Canalside this coming Monday. The Healthy Scratch has taken over the former Modern Nostalgia shop at HarborCenter. The restaurant is the brainchild of Jessie and Kelly Pegula, who wanted to bring a fast and healthy option to the waterfront. Jessie Pegula, a professional tennis player, and Kelly Pegula, a college marketing student, have teamed together to embark upon this venture. The owners will be utilizing their collective strengths in their fields to launch their new enterprise.

jessieheadshot“Kelly and I are excited to bring our healthy lifestyle ideas to the Western New York community,” Jessie Pegula (inset – left) said. “We have a passion for healthy, modern food items and have been working to develop a menu that highlights some popular trends that have taken off around the country. We are very proud to begin this chapter of our professional lives in Buffalo’s emerging Canalside district.”

The Healthy Scratch will specialize in serving up smoothies, acai bowls, fresh cold pressed juices, salads, wraps, overnight oatmeal, yogurts, and other healthy grab-and-go food options. There will also be exclusive branded merchandise including water bottles and natural beauty products.

kellyheadshot“We have been inspired by our parents’ business success and share their passion for the city of Buffalo,” Kelly Pegula (inset – right) said. “They have inspired Jessie and me to start our own business here in Buffalo. The development of our region, recent trends in the health food industry, and our passion for both has made this venture extremely meaningful for us.”

The Healthy Scratch adds to the newfound excitement that is being generated by a number of Canalside projects that are currently in the works, including the Explore & More Children’s Museum, Hofbräuhaus, and the Carousel @ Canalside.
