Night Slaves 2 Cassette Release Party at Mohawk Place

Those of you who know musician David Kane know he is a super nice person with an eccentric taste for creative music. He has constantly been creating interesting original music for decades, and his most current effort, Night Slaves, fits in nicely with the rest of his body of work. Now David and his accomplice John Toohill (Night Slaves) will be releasing their second cassette this Saturday at Mohawk Place.

While discussing the project, Toohill says, “It seems I usually do everything in life up to my eyeballs. I’m working on three other active musical projects besides NIGHT SLAVES. Night Slaves is a brooding noise rock band in which I’m the lead singer/songwriter. I’m one half of the guitar weirdness in ALPHA HOPPER – a post everything, kitchen-sink-of-styles-punk band. And I front the bizzaro, sax soaked, hardcore dummy punk of RADIATION RISKS. So yeah. Just swimming in it.”

David talks about some of his other work, “In addition to Night Slaves I am still involved with Jazzbeards, HEARsay, {MPP} Major Progress Program which has a triple vinyl release coming out in December. Also involved with a production at The Kavinoky Theater called GROUNDED, a really great play with all the A list theater people involved. Some solo stuff, a Halloween show with David Wasik where you walk away with a recording of the show and design your own cd cover while we play.”

But the focus is on this Saturday night, ‘Really fired up about Night Slaves 2. Maybe darker and faster than NS 1. Well, half of it is – side B is one 20 minute sort of minimal, atmospheric, mysterious composition. We don’t title the releases because it’s more fun to hear what people call them afterwards. Like Chinese takeout or hangover night success. This one has the Mexican Loteria and Luminaria Themed packaging. So we will see where that goes.”

We seem to have sidestepped for a moment and have been on a noise rocker binge. Pretty scary shit. Even for us.

As any composer/musician would, David continues to create new music. “NS 3 is already in progress.
We seem to use our time wisely and often do not realize that till the next day. Yes we work and play hard.” He concludes with, “We seem to have sidestepped for a moment and have been on a noise rocker binge. Pretty scary shit. Even for us. We take the music seriously but not ourselves, amen.”
