Now that American Repertory Theatre has found a new home on Amherst Street (see here), it’s time to get the show on the road. Starting October 27, an all female team will lead the production of a dark comedy titled How To Make Friends and Then Kill Them.
The show, making its debut on the ART/WNY’s stage, is said to be a mash-up of Heathers and Pretty Little Liars. Not only will this be a chance to catch a show that promises to be full of sharp wit and black comedy, the audience will also get a chance to check out one of the newest theater settings in town, with some inspirational talents at the helm.
The production will debut Maura Nolan in her first ART/WNY full-production directorial role. Making her ART debut is Sue McCormack as ‘Sam’ with the second half of the sister team featuring Melissa Levin as ‘Ada’, and their new friend ‘Dorrie’ played by Mara Morris.
In contrast to the opportunity for both cast and crew to exercise their dramatic arts craft in this forum, both Nolan and Burkhart recognize the limited opportunities facing women in this field. “There are very few female directors in Buffalo, and even fewer female directors under 30.” Said Nolan. “I could not be more excited for this opportunity, this production and to work with this fantastic, talented, strong group of women.” – BroadwayWorld.com
