Daily Diversions: Notebook Sketches by Chuck Tingley

tingley-shark-girl-buffalo-ny-2One of the city’s most prolific artists is hosting a rare solo show at Studio Hart starting October 7. Tingley’s works can be viewed on the sides of buildings and in commercial businesses throughout the city. The whimsical nature of his works have the ability to transport viewers into imaginary realms that only the artist’s mind can conjure. This solo show will give us an inside look into Tingley’s notebook, which is a reflection of self, born of a need for immediacy and record keeping.

My notebook sketches explore memory, identity, and the human condition through iconic character portraits and psychological narratives.

Tingley’s use of colors is captivating, as is his ability to broadcast larger than life images that tug at our emotions.

Sometimes the authors at Buffalo Rising work on collaborative efforts in order to cover various events and stories. These posts can not be attributed to one single author, as it is a combined effort. Often times a formation of a post gets started by one writer and passed along to one or more writers before completion. At times there are author attributions at the end of one of these posts. Other times, “Buffalo Rising” is simply offered up as the creator of the article. In either case, the writing is original to Buffalo Rising.
