If you’re into mountain biking, and racing, and hills, with bumps, and dirt, grass, gravel and mud, and scratches, and steeple chase like barriers… and you’re a fan of gears and shouting and cowbells and Delaware Park, then you’re going to love Cross in The Park.
This is the sixth year that Campus WheelWorks is running cyclocross in Delaware Park. I remember the first year, when one of the guys from Campus told me that this was going on, and I thought in the back of my head, “This is going to tough to pull off, for many reasons.”
Competitors tackle a course that is almost two miles long!
Six years later, this event has come to signify so much about what I love about this city – cycling, camaraderie, fall, the parks… cow bells! The races are fun, a bit grueling, and a are a blast to observe. They last between 45 minutes and an hour, which means that endurance plays a big part in the event.
New sections! More speed! More power! More flow! No more stairs or spirals! You are going to love it!
Cross in The Park incorporates a Junior Boys and Girls race that starts at 10am. 2016 also brings about The Dominator – a cross country running race that starts at noon. There’s also a free kids’ race at 1pm.
Come out to Delaware Park the first Sunday in November and see one of the greatest events Buffalo has to offer.
The rest of the day is dedicated to the main event – adult cyclocross. The races take place around the iconic Stone Bridge by Hoyt Lake, on The Marcy Casino side of the lake.
To add to the excitement, there will be food trucks and a DJ, and an emcee who will be reporting on the various races throughout the day.
Bring your family, and get ready to cheer on the riders as they pass by. There is no other event quite like this in the city of Buffalo. Oh, and if you have a cowbell… bring it!
