A new pergola court plaza has been created at the corner of Van Rensselaer and Exchange. The development has helped to create an aesthetically pleasing walkway at Larkin Center of Commerce. The elevated corner gateway mimics many of Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural and design influences, from the modernist wood pergola to the lighting that loosely reflects design accents that would have been found at the FLW Administration Building and other FLW structures.
The new addition incorporates plenty of plantings, rails, lighting, and there’s a tribute to the Larkin Center of Commerce in the concrete flooring. Even the wood accents and the railings give a hat tip to Lloyd’s iconic windows. The entire setting does a nice job of obscuring the parking lot to the rear, which is always welcome in historic districts such as Larkinville.
