Thanks to the dedicated community efforts by Half & Half owners Jennifer and Kilby Bronstein, a neon fixture has been restored on Elmwood Avenue. Although the neon components burned out years ago, this series of moon phases over an urban skyline has remained visible on the side of 1088 Elmwood Avenue.
There are probably very few people who even remember when the neon sequences even worked. At the time, a Michael Morgulis mural was painted on the side of the building (Artvoice commissioned the project). Moving forward, the Bronsteins plan to commission a new mural for the side of the building.
According to Jennifer, restoring the building’s facade and lighting it up was the primary goal (exterior-wise).
Then came the restoration of the neon moon phases on the north side of the building, and ultimately the mural will be commissioned. Altogether, this is an impressive investment for the mother-daughter team to tackle. It shows their commitment to their section of Elmwood Avenue, and their desire to create a shopping destination on a block that is primarily known for its restaurants.
These are the types of businesses that we need to support. The next tine that you’re about to make a clothing purchase online, consider heading over to Half & Half and investing in the city of Buffalo instead.
