Live Music Thursdays @ Raclettes

Author: Sandra Wilkins

When you think of a place in downtown Buffalo where you can hear local musicians display their amazing talent, you probably don’t think of Raclettes restaurant. Why? Maybe you haven’t heard of us yet because we are relatively new (6 months last week and celebrating with a new menu!) Perhaps you have heard of us but you just didn’t know that we are now one of the go-to places for musicians to book a gig. Yes, they are now calling Raclettes to get a spot! And it is wonderful.

Raclettes has been featuring a local artist every Thursday night since June 16th, when our then daytime bartender, the extremely talented Jenevieve Egriu, brought in a microphone and keyboard and brought down the house! She was amazing. Her sister, Dushari and some other talented musicians joined her and had a brilliant jam session with amazing vocals right at the front of our restaurant. That one night was all it took… I was addicted, and so were others. I have always been a live music junky but haven’t always been able to go out and enjoy it. Now, every Thursday, I simply have to walk down the stairs.

The day after Jenevieve played, I told her of my plans to make Thursday a live music night. Buffalo is used to that live music on Thursdayin the Square, at Canalside and this summer at Fountain Plaza with the first year of the Mid-City Social. What a great idea to bring it inside and keep it year round! I asked her if she knew of some other musicians that I could call on.

“You know, Kyle sings,” she smiled, and showed me a YouTube video of Kyle Ebrith, our then newly hired line cook. I listened to the clip and marched right into the kitchen and asked him excitedly if he wanted to sing the following Thursday. I think he panicked! But he agreed to sing the week after that so I booked him… but I really

didn’t want to wait two weeks to have a live act again. So I called my brother, Mark Novelli, a local (Niagara County) musician himself, to see if he could hook me up with an acoustic type act that could play the following week. Mark sent me the brilliant Dave Stayner (who did his first ever Erie County gig at Raclettes the next Thursday night), along with the names and numbers of several other local artistsand the rest is history.

Along with our own Jenevieve and Kyle, past and future performers include Dashuri Egriu, Tim Britt, Tony DeRosa, Mari McNeal, The Joe Webber Duo, Owen Eichensehr, Jazzline, Jamie Holka and more. Many of these artists have been featured on Buffalo Rising’s Sounds of Buffalo. We have an eclectic mix of musicians and our entire line up through November and into December is available on our website (along with our delightful new menu).

Come in and join us and support our own, homegrown, talented musicians on Thursday nights. Or come any time Monday through Saturday for lunch or dinner or even Sunday for brunch – and enjoy some delicious food, brilliant wines, craft beer in bottles and on tap and some fun French-style cocktails like our Dubbonet Manhattan or Blueberry French. We really look forward to having you here!

It’s not unusual for authors to come and go. Guest authors range from collegiate interns to writers who will be contributing for a short stint of time. Guest authors might also have a series in mind. Authors are encouraged to submit their ideas to BRO (Buffalo Rising Online), upon which time we will work with the writer towards a productive end.
