Award-winning chefs Steve and Ellen Gedra will be honorary co-chairs of this year’s Dining Out For Life. The two own one of the city’s most revered restaurants , The Black Sheep Restaurant & Bar, located at 367 Connecticut Street on the West Side.
The Gedra’s were chosen as co-chairs due to their unwavering support of the event over the years. Since returning to Buffalo in 2009, they have made a huge effort to support this cause – in 2016 they will be donating 50% of the restaurant’s dinner checks. Even their pour staff is donating a portion of their tips, making them the largest donors to date.
An annual dining fundraising event raising money for AIDS service organizations.
Dining Out for Life is such an important initiative, and one that is so easy to partake in. The money raised at the event goes towards battling HIV/AIDS. The way the event works is:
- You pick a participating restaurant where you want to eat, on Tuesday, October 11, 2016
- You enjoy a delicious meal with a friend or a loved one
- A certain percentage of your check goes to the cause
“Ellen and I wholeheartedly believe in this cause, in this event,” says Steve Gedra. “Great strides have been made in HIV/AIDS treatment. If we can eradicate it completely – and we’re closer every day – then we need to help each other through important events such as Dining Out For Life. We believe in supporting the community that supports our business, and we’re thrilled to help in any way we can.”
The Black Sheep joins more than 90 other participating restaurants in 2016. Each of those eateries will be donating at least 25% of their proceeds to Evergreen Health, a not-for-profit organization providing HIV/AIDS services in the WNY community.
“Steve and Ellen have been true supporters of Dining Out For Life and Evergreen Health,” says Christopher Reybrouck, Director of Development at Evergreen Health. “We’re grateful they’re able to take the time from their busy schedule and successful restaurant to help promote Dining Out For Life, which is Evergreen’s largest annual fundraiser.”
Dining Out for Life is presented by Key Bank and Evergreen Health.
