It wasn’t that long ago when we posted on the need for a pedal tour bike in Buffalo (September of 2014). A BRO reader sent along a note, saying that she had seen the touring contraption online and she felt that this city was prime for just such an adventure. Little did she know how right she was. Shortly after that initial post, Ken Szal emailed me, saying that he was on the West Coast looking at a pedal pub that he wanted to bring home to Buffalo (see here).
Not only did Ken succeed in bringing that initial pedal pub to Buffalo, he has managed to grow his fleet to five pedal pubs in a very short period of time. His fifth bike just hit the streets (see lead image), making his pedal pub business the largest beer bike company in the northeast. “… bigger that Philly or Pittsburgh!” he says.
Since Ken made his first purchase, the streets of downtown Buffalo have come alive with the sounds of clanging bells, and plenty of hooting and hollering. If you find yourself anywhere near the Cobblestone District, chances are that you will happen upon one of Ken’s Buffalo Pedal Tours pedal pubs. The rolling pubs make watering hole stops along the way, filling up bar stools for short term layovers. Then they are off and running again, as they make their rounds from street to street.
Ken’s business is so good, that his son is now running a pedal pub route in Rochester. It seems as if people just can’t get enough of these cycling sightseeing tour operations. Buffalo Pedal Tours now claims to possess the most complete collection of major beer bikes styles in the world, boasting five unique vehicles in Buffalo alone. That’s pretty incredible considering that a couple of years ago we were initially posting as part of an ongoing Bring it to Buffalo series.
