Each year, people gather at the Scajaquada Expressway pedestrian bridge (at Hoyt Lake) to honor those who lost their lives in the 9/11 attacks, as well as those who continue to protect and serve. In fact, it was in May of 2013 that NYS Senator Mark Grisanti made a bridge dedication. Today the pedestrian loop is called Scajaquada 9/11 Memorial Bridge.
15 year anniversary – to stand with those who serve and protect us in our communities. All are encouraged to wave their flags over the bridge.
On Sunday September 11th, the community is encouraged to make a pilgrimage to the bridge, to witness the remembrance that will occur between 8:30 AM and 10:15 AM. That is the time period when the four commercial airlines were hijacked and used in an attack on American soil (September 11, 2001).
Never forget. Come stand side by side with members of the Buffalo Fire Engine 36 and Buffalo Police Precinct D. The two units represent first responders every year, along with Rural Metro Emergency medical personnel. In the past, the US Marines, Army National Guard and US Coast Guard have also made appearances.
