Let’s all give a hand to Valu Home Centers. The business has raised $134,720 for Habitat for Humanity (H4H). The H4H organization has been building houses at a relatively rapid rate on the city’s West Side (see more), and throughout the region. Each year Valu Home Centers holds a fundraising event, where 100% of the donations raised go towards H4H’s efforts to continue to build houses (homes) for those who would not otherwise be able to buy a house.
What’s so neat about the continued H4H efforts is that they require the future homeowner to contribute 500 sweat equity hours into the project or they can’t move in to the house. This way, the homeowner acquires building and maintenance skills, as well as an even deeper appreciation for the home.
In order to raise the money, Valu cashiers asked customers to donate a dollar for a raffle ticket. Two different prizes were offered up – a $1000 Valu gift card and a 2016 Ford Focus (won by Dan Morgan of Hamburg).
