Is Buffalo ready for some sightseeing bus tours? One BRO reader feels that it is due time that someone steps up and creates a bus tour line that is conducive to the needs of visitors from the suburbs and from other cities. After this past weekend, with so many people heading to the waterfront for myriad reasons, some sort of double-decker tour bus might just be one of the answers to alleviating congestion while offering visitors a chance to see the broader picture.
Once Hofbrauhaus opens, and Explore and More Children’s Museum, there’s going to be a lot more to see and do. The Metro Rail is a great way to get right into the thick of things, but then there are people who want more than what the rail can offer – a tourism angle. Just look at the number of tourists that hop on all of the sightseeing boats these days. It’s no different.
The Open Air Bus is great, but it’s more for architecture and history buffs. Buffalo Pedal Tours just added its fifth vehicle to its fleet, making it the the largest beer bike company in the Northeast – bigger than Philadelphia or Pittsburgh.
A BRO reader sent us an email inquiring whether broader a tourism bus service would be available any time soon.
I live in the burbs but love spending time in the City checking out old and new restaurants, museums, parks, etc. I have wondered for awhile if there isn’t a better way for our tourists to see more of the new Buffalo than the immediate areas near their hotel. I have recently wondered whether a HOHO Bus would work for Buffalo and went so far as to scratch down a draft “route”. I was surprised that there seem to be several logistically logical and robust tour routes one could establish to capture many of our cities offerings. I happened to be at the Information Center on Washington Street last week and mentioned this. They informed me this idea may be in the planning right now and potentially up and running in 2017. – MKL
Last year, BRO reported that the English Pork Pie Company/Pitch Bar was tossing around the idea of establishing a double decker bus sightseeing food truck in Buffalo (see here). Now that would be a heck of an idea. Pork pies, beer and sightseeing provided by a local company. What could be better than that?
