On August 19, from 7pm to 10pm, a series of collectible art posters commemorating the SS Columbia will be unveiled at Lockhouse Distillery. The posters portray the ship’s sojourn to Buffalo. The SS Columbia arrived in Buffalo just under a year ago. Since that time, the 114-year-old steamboat has managed to attract numerous sightseers, due to the ship’s historic legacy and its close resemblance to the SS Canadiana and SS Americana, both of which operated out of Buffalo.
Featured Buffalo artists include: Joel Brenden, Brian Grunert, Jon Mirro, and Julian Montague.
The SS Columbia tribute includes live music by hip-hop artist Decora, a DJ set, and a performance poet, all assembled by a Hudson Valley event curator.
The unveiling event is in tandem with Torn Space Theater’s Response Performance Festival at Silo City. A site specific piece called Burden was created with the architectural backdrop of Silo City’s ‘Marine A’ and SS Columbia in mind.
Tickets are $25, including first drink and your choice of one poster. Tickets will be available at the door. And posters will be available for sale on the SS Columbia Project’s website beginning August 19.
