Buff City Hoops will soon be holding its second annual grand finale tournament. The Buff City Hoops tournament was initiated when the Gus Macker Tournament pulled out of the city limits. Feeling slighted by the move, organizers quickly geared up to host their own version of the tournament, which has spun off to a number of yearly fundraisers, side events and add-on initiatives.
One of the tournament coordinators, Esther Smothers, has been involved with Buffalo building projects the majority of her life. Her involvement in the tournament is a major boon for the yearly event. “Buff City is a Free Citywide Safe Summer Initiative,” says Esther. “We are not just a Basketball Tournament we believe in strengthening the Community by enhancing the minds of our youth one participant at a time. We not only provide an organized constructive outlet through Basketball, we have included violence prevention education, motivational speakers, and a new tie giveaway initiative, changing lives from the inside out at absolutely no cost to our participants, This is possible because of the donations from the community and corporate sponsors. Buffalo is on the move, however some of the best treasures develop out of the most pressured places – we need the Community’s Help and Support to manifest diamonds from some of the forgotten, dark mines of Buffalo. Together we can continue to make difference by investing in the lives of our tomorrow through Buff City Hoops.”
