The cooler days are slowly arriving. That could only mean one thing. Curtain Up! is right around the corner. Buffalo’s fantastic celebration of the opening of the theater season is an event like no other. From a creative black-tie gala dinner to dancing in the streets, Downtown Buffalo comes alive with revelers anticipating the annual rebirth of a cultural medium that has literally helped to forge a new Buffalo over the years. When this city was down and out, people could always rely on the lively theater scene to bolster the spirits of those who were in search of creative outlets. You might say that theater was one of the glues that bonded this city together.
“The Theatre District Association of WNY (TDA) is proud to present the 35th Annual Curtain Up! event in partnership with M&T Bank. This event continues to grow year after year because of the strength and creativity of our theatre community, but more importantly, because of the passion and dedication of our Patrons. We’re excited about what’s in store for this year’s event and hope you will come on down and support the opening of Buffalo’s Theatre Season,” says Tony Conte, President of the TDA.
On the night of Curtain Up, there will be 15 professional theatrical productions including award-winning comedies, musicals and dramas. The main stage of Shea’s Buffalo theatre will feature cocktails and a creative black-tie gala dinner – this is an absolutely smashing time that should not be missed.
After all of the shows have let out (at 10pm), revelers take to Main Street to party, with cash bars, outdoor entertainment, and food trucks. These days, this is just as much a celebration of the city of Buffalo as it is a tribute to the dynamic professional theater scene.
