Talk Coffee Lands in Hamlin Park on East Delavan

Talk Coffee is the latest café to open in the Hamlin Park neighborhood, joining the long running E.M. Tea Coffee Cup Café. The new shop is located in a recently rehabilitated storefront/apartment building on the corner of East Delavan and Meech Avenues. The main operation is located along the Meech Avenue side while the frontage on East Delavan will soon be a casual lounging space for customers.

Karl Myles is a lawyer by trade, but was looking for a change of pace when he decided to open the café. Myles is a Canisius College alumnus from 1992 and settled on the neighborhood he called home during his undergrad years. “I was searching for over a year for the right spot, but there are so few options out there that fit my needs,” he explained. “When I found this building, it was just perfect and the location is prime.”

This is Myles first venture into the retail world and he has some eclectic offerings planned for Talk Coffee. In addition to the old standbys of hot/iced coffee and espresso, he’s planning to have smoothies, milkshakes, and sundaes. He’s putting a new twist on the classic café concept by offering a limited section of ice cream as well. “I’m really hoping to do a dollar menu as well here people can come in and get something quick and easy for just a buck like a small coffee, small ice cream, that sort of thing,” said Myles.

Future lounging area in the front of the shop

The café will also be offering food, with a specific focus on breakfast items. “We’ll be serving all sort of breakfast things like waffles and breakfast burritos. As we shift into the afternoon and evening I want to put a focus on burrito and taco options that are as authentic Mexican as possible.” Myles and his friends frequented a beloved Mexican restaurant throughout their college years and he’s hoping to recreate some of that magic in his own shop.

Talk Coffee is located at 208 East Delavan Avenue and is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10am to 10pm. You can follow them on Facebook here. Karl plans to tap into the around the clock caffeine needs of the local college population by being open 24 hours the week before exam week and exam week for all colleges near by.
