Work is well underway on a housing project that is shaping up on a 22-acre parcel at Forest Avenue and Danforth Street, near Niagara Street. The $25 million complex at 100 Forest Avenue will feature 10 structures, housing up to 592 students and non-students. The complex includes nine residential units (suites) per building, and a 8,550-square-foot clubhouse.
The project is being headed up by out of town developer DHD Ventures. The real estate company is taking advantage of what some say is still a shortage of student housing in Buffalo. A number of developers have attempted similar projects over the years, with very few coming to fruition until now. Greenleaf is moving forward with a development, and additional student housing was recently constructed on the Buffalo State campus along Grant Street.
100 Forest Avenue is ideally situated near Buffalo State, and should be a big draw for students looking to live off campus with convenient amenities.
The property was once home to Bristol-Myers Squibb and then Contract Pharmaceuticals. This project is a big deal at the corner of Forest and Niagara, and could help to trigger additional developments in this underutilized area of the city. Passero Associates is designing the project.
