Just this morning, an inspirational running group launched in downtown Buffalo. The idea came about when a couple of Public Espresso + Coffee customers began to chat about running. It just so happens that one customer was a local trainer, while the other customer was looking to get into running. Before long, the two decided that they would form a running club that would meet at The Hotel @ The Lafayette once a week (Wednesdays @ 6:45am). Not only would the runners be trained by a professional, Melina Buck from Next Level Running, they would also enter into a 5K race at the end of the eight week training session. Plus, the runners would get discounts at Public after every run.
This morning was the first run in the current eight week training session. Anyone that did not sign up for the program is still welcome to participate in the individual weekly runs (for $5 a run). Depending on the success and the outcome of this current running session, there will surely be additional full eight week running programs to attend.
These are the types of offerings that have the ability to grow some serious legs. Not being a runner myself, I can see how having a ‘captain’ at the helm can help to keep runners motivated. There are surely some great tips to be learned along the way. And some incredible coffee and pastries to be enjoyed after an early morning run. Kudos to all parties involved that were able to put this program together. It has all of the elements needed to have growth and longevity.
