Before Pokémon became all the rage, there was Free Art Friday Buffalo (FAFB). FAFB is a hide ‘n seek game where small works of original works of art are hidden throughout he city. Images (clues) are then uploaded to Instagram on Fridays, which signals the beginning of that week’s hunt.
Rex Keppel, co-owner of Matinee, was the guy who reminded me that the artistic treasure hunt was being held each week. He had just retrieved a skateboard deck after spotting it on Instagram. The deck had been given a dècoupage treatment – a city of Buffalo map had been applied to the surface. Rex was pretty stoked to find the art trophy, which he was going to hang on the wall of his bar.
Anyone who wants to participate in the Friday art hunt can simply click here. Heck, if you’re already playing Pokémon, you might even capture a few characters along the way!
