As chance would have it, at the same time that Buffalo is put on a pedestal as a top beer loving city, a researcher has compiled/mapped this city’s current and defunct breweries, distilleries, wineries, malt houses, etc. According to Cynthia Van Ness, Director of Library and Archives at The Buffalo History Museum, the work was completed by Amy Miller, Assistant Librarian at the museum.
The map is a fascinating look into the world of drinking in Buffalo, past and present. This city was once a boom town for breweries and distilleries, before Prohibition came along and virtually obliterated the drinking industry overnight. Down but not out, Buffalo has been rebounding now that a number of the State’s archaic Blue Laws are being kicked to the curb.
