Despite the fact that it’s drier than heck out there, people are still managing to tend to their urban farms and gardens. Want to see it for yourself? On Saturday, August 6, from 10am to 3pm, you are invited to tour some of the most significant community/environmentally sustainable farms and gardens in Buffalo, complete with round trip transportation, tour guides and a box lunch.
The Beyond Flowers Tour allows people an insider’s view into a number of progressive gardening and farming practices in the city. If you want to get a different perspective of Buffalo, in a way that few ever get to see, then this tour is for you. Some of the stopping points along the way include:
- Massachusetts Avenue Project
- PUSH’s 14th Street Garden
- The Broadway Market Rooftop Community Garden
- Wilkeson Pointe
- Mutual Riverfront Park
- Buffalo Niagara Riverkeeper’s RiverBend project
- Urban Habitat Project at the Central Terminal
- The Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus’ bioretention cell in downtown Buffalo
This is a fascinating firsthand look at a number of initiatives that have been highlighted on Buffalo Rising over the years. Now, instead of reading about these inspirational projects, it’s a chance to engage with forward thinking leaders from myriad innovative landscape projects. This is the future of sustainable Buffalo. This is the Beyond Flowers Tour.
