A Powerful Night of Magic in Buffalo featuring Garrett Thomas and Joe Maxwell

One of downtown Buffalo’s newest bars is getting its act together by offering a night of complimentary magic by Garrett Thomas and Joe Maxwell.

Buffalo might be known for its comedy scene, but it’s not really known as a city full of magicians. As a matter of fact, I can’t remember the last time I caught a magic act in Buffalo. That’s why I was so surprised to hear that this city is home to such a well respected magician.

I learned this after stopping into Matinee the other day. Owners Rex Keppel and Kevin Shanahan looked as if they had just seen a ghost. I asked them what was up, and they told me that a guy living upstairs had just performed a couple of magic trick illusions for them. Apparently the guy blew their minds and they couldn’t get the stunts out of their heads.

Wanting to know more, they told me that the magician’s name was Garrett Thomas, and he has been writing numerous skits, tricks and illusions for David Blaine since 2003. Now they had my full attention. I asked them why he wasn’t performing around downtown Buffalo, and they said that he mainly takes his act on the road to NYC. It didn’t take long before the three of us were hatching a plan to have Thomas perform Downtown at Matinee. Rex and Kevin reached out to the magician who accepted the offer to entertain for a free evening of magic.

On Saturday, July 23, Garrett Thomas and his apprentice Joe Maxwell will be conducting a powerful night of magic and illusions. The performance will be free, and set on a first come first serve basis. Witness mind blowing illusions in an intimate and magical setting.
