A BRO Reader’s Wish Comes True – Bring on the Giant Rubber Duck!

Back in May of 2014, a Buffalo Rising reader Steve Earnhart sent along an emailing requesting that Canalside try to get the world’s largest rubber duck to the Inner Harbor (see post). It only took a couple of years, but Steve’s wish has been granted, and on August 27 and 28 “Mama Duck” will be making an appearance at Canalside’s Maritime Festival. The giant duck sits (floats) six storeys high and weighs in at 11 tons. That’s a lot of quack for duck wranglers to deal with.

Since originally posting the story, Steve even set up his own Facebook page, hoping to drum up interest in bringing the giant duck to Buffalo. We will probably never know if the Steve’s interest in the duck planted the seed that set everything in motion, but I would like to think that it helped. Regardless, he’s got to be pretty thrilled to see this giant yellow quacker coming to the waterfront in August.

We can officially cross off another ‘Bring it to Buffalo” item off of our bucket list.

Stay tuned to all of the details on Canalside’s official World’s Largest Rubber Duck Facebook page.
