The Black Rock and Riverside Tour of Gardens Committee is celebrating twelve years of dedicating gardening by upwards of 50 gardeners who participate in the tour each year. These Northwest Buffalo neighborhoods have some of the most interesting and beautiful gardens to be found in the region. The tour is free and self guided.
The Tour of Gardens also features a pretty neat twist. Later in the evening, 20 gardens will be illuminated for a Starry Night Garden tour. This is the only twilight tour in Buffalo, making it the perfect touring experience for people looking for something a little bit different.
To add to the pleasant experience, a 12-page color program will be distributed to tourists. The program, made possible thanks to the Zenger Group, provides people with “maps, detailed garden descriptions, dedicated sponsors, and a print of the original artwork by Clarence resident, Sally Blain.”
Programs, posters, tee shirts, caps and visors will be available during the day hours of the event at two local headquarters. The Black Rock Tour of Gardens headquarters is Buffalo Religious Arts Center, 157 East St. The Riverside Headquarters is St. Mark’s and All Saints’ Church at 311 Ontario St.
Councilmember Joseph Golombek will speak of Black Rock history at 11 am on August 6th at $8 per person. Meet at the Buffalo Religious Arts Center for this walking tour; proceeds to benefit the Tour of Gardens. Olmsted’s Riverside Park will offer a tour at 1 pm at the northeast corner of the park and a volunteer will showcase the recent beautification efforts of the park. Buffalo Religious Arts Center will also conduct their own tours from 11am to 3pm at $8 per person.
At each of the headquarters the following will be available: colored tee shirts ($12/each), caps and visors ($10/each), and posters ($2/each). They are sure to be a keepsake. There will also be raffle tickets for $1.00 each for a chance to win the original framed artwork.
Also, on August 6th: – All Saint RC Church Parish Festival, 127 Chadduck Ave from 3pm to 11pm.
