Muralists Get To Work

A colossal mural is underway in Downtown Buffalo. At around midnight last night, I came across muralists Jessie and Katey (see background) getting busy outlining the massive production. The artists were accompanied by Aaron Ott,Curator of Public Art for the Albright-Knox Gallery, and Keith Harrington, artist, videographer, remixer, and VJ.

To begin the process, the 32′ x 240′ must first be outlined, using a giant projector (ala Keith). This is done sectionally, by illuminating large swaths of the wall, while the muralists follow the patterns. Once the entire pattern is fashioned, Jessie and Katey will begin to do what it is that they do best – infill with super vibrant colorful paints, which will bring the wall to life.

The mural project is a partnership between Shea’s Performing Arts Center, 710 Main Theatre, and the Albright-Knox as part of the gallery’s Public Art Initiative.

The 710 Main Theatre Mural is scheduled to be completed by the end of June, 2016.
