As you begin to weigh your spring and summer exercise choices, there is one that you shouldn’t overlook. No, it’s not tennis or yoga or paddle boarding… it’s hip-hop!
Studio 990 on Kenmore Avenue is introducing an entire series of hip-hop dance fitness classes that are going to be as much fun as they are effective. After all, by the time a student gets out of a session, he or she will feel an immediate difference in energy levels, as well as fitness levels. Whether you want to concentrate on getting your booty in shape, or are looking to learn some routines, there’s a class for everyone at all levels of dance.
If you missed International Dance Day on April 29, 2016, then you can make up for it by taking some sensational high energy dance classes moving forward.
Local dancers and choreographers Rishone Todd and Susie Kushner (seen above) will be leading the hip-hop focused classes at 990 Kenmore Avenue. “We wanted to provide another space in the community where people can come and celebrate movement,” says Todd. “We are thrilled to share what we love and look forward to helping our students find their own movement by learning a few of ours.”
Following is the weekly schedule:
- Hip Hop for Starters (Wednesdays 6-7pm): This class is designed for dancers who want to get stronger in their technique, and for new dancers who’ve never taken class before. Taught by Rishone Todd.
- Intermediate Hip Hop (Wednesdays 7-8pm): For those ready to move on from the starter level and apply choreography concepts, Intermediate Hip Hop is designed to progress students’ technique in Hip Hop dance through choreography. Taught by Susie Kushner.
- Booty Work – Hip Hop Inspired Aerobics (Thursdays 6-7pm): A fitness class for those who want cardio and Hip Hop infused movement. It is a fun alternative for muscles toning using danceable beats that doesn’t include the stair-climber. Taught by Susie Kushner.
- Advanced Hip Hop (Thursdays 6-7pm): For experienced dancers and movers looking for a challenging mix of Hip Hop/related styles. Taught by Rishone Todd.
Classes are open to ages 13 and up, at $10/ per class. For more information and class updates, follow Susie and Rishone on Facebook @ Musicality Central or call 716-432-4008 or 716-903-3330.
