Buffalo Distilling Co. (BDC) is getting close to opening its tasting room at 860 Seneca Street in the Larkin District. The distillery occupies the three-story former Duchmann & Sons Carriage Manufacturing building that was completed in 1890.
BDC owners have leased the historic building from Larkin Development Group with a right of first refusal for purchase. A small one-story metal structure to the left of the historic brick structure was partially dismantled in order to create a more captivating appearance for the distillery from the street. A residence to the east of the building was also demolished.
Across the street Larkin Development Group is finishing up renovations to 867 and 871 Seneca Street. They are at the eastern gateway into the Larkin District as they are the first properties on the south side of Seneca Street west of Smith Street.
According to Howard Zemsky, managing partner of Larkin Development Group, the buildings are envisioned as being used as live-work space with residential on the second level and a store, studio, or office on the ground floor.
867 Seneca has 1,848 sq.ft. of space and was built in 1906. Neighboring 871 Seneca has 2,244 sq.ft. and was built in 1888 according to the City’s property database. Tenants have not been identified for either property.
