The first market-rate apartment project within the Medical Campus is wrapping up with some intricate brick work underway on the front facade. Sinatra & Company is converting the former Phoenix Brewery into a mix of 31 apartments and 3,000 sq.ft. of commercial space. The 49,700 sq.ft. building is located at the southeast corner of Washington and Virginia streets, one block from Main Street and the Granite Works development and directly behind the Innovation Center.
Apartments will include one and two bedroom layouts and several of the units will be two-stories. Features include polished concrete floors, open floor plans, exposed brickwork, and high ceilings. Enclosed parking for 24 cars will be available. Carmina Wood Morris designed the project.
One of the building’s distinctive features is coming back. Masons are corbeling bricks to recreate the crown in the center of the front facade of the building.
The circa-1888 structure was built as Buffalo’s first brewery and was purchased by the developer in April 2014. Occupancy is scheduled for July.
