Artist/muralist Vinny Alejandro is working on a new project for the River Rock Community Coalition (RRCC). RRCC has been responsible for initiating numerous food drives and local clean ups in Buffalo. Founded by George A. Fitzpatrick (current president), the organization has now embarked upon a mission to tackle repairs and beautification efforts on the wall of AMVETS Medallion Post #13. The effort began with weatherproofing and painting, which paved the way for Vinny to get started on his mural concept.
The wall repair effort was orchestrated by Debbie Lombardo who, according to Vinny, is the reigning Mayor of Towpath, a local community activist, and a brilliant networker. It was via these connections that Vinny (a US veteran) was chosen for the Riverside and Black Rock art project. Other participants and supporters include United Steelworkers, the Buffalo State Rugby Club, George A. Fitzpatrick, Jimbo McDonald and Bill Hartzell (former Commander of the AMVETS Medallion Post #13).
The Community Mural project honors all of our nations veterans and their branches of service.
An official unveiling of the work is scheduled for June 17, 2016 at Amvets Medallion, 25 Review Place in Buffalo. The post’s wall can be viewed from Tonawanda Street. The public is invited to come out and celebrate the accomplishment from 5:30pm to 9:30pm.
The cost for admission to this event will be a $20 donation. Draft beer(s) and food will be included with each donation. There will also be 50-50 split and some items raffled off, including the original drawing of the mural. Proceeds raised at the event will go towards mural expenses. Tickets may be purchased in advance, or at the door. Follow this Facebook event page for additional information.
